 and edited by Sue Mackay

Additonal Information

This is pre 1820 information mainly taken from actual images of UK parish registers and other primary sources which I have personally researched. Further information about the settlers and their families once they reached the Cape can be found at https://www.1820settlers.com/

SCOTT, George Dennis - Extra Data

(member of WILLSON's Party)

Death Notice (Cape Archives) appears to say his father was John, but his marriage certificate says his father was Thomas. The DN says he returned to England to get married.

Family Search

George Dennis SCOTT son of John and Ann baptised 24 August 1802 in St.Nicholas, Deptford

 London Metropolitan Archives

George Dennis SCOTT, carpenter, Woolwich, son of Thomas SCOTT, carpenter

Frances WRIGHT, spinster, 4 Manchester Place Union Street, daughter of Thomas Saunders WRIGHT, fishmonger

Married by Licence on 29 October 1843 in St.Saviour, Southwark

Both signed

Witnesses: George Tomlinson [HAVENT], [Josh] CORSAN, Harriett WRIGHT, W. WRIGHT

It is possible that George Dennis SCOTT was the son of John SCOTT of WILLSON's Party by his first wife, and that a mistake was made in the father's name on George's marriage certificate. John SCOTT was also a carpenter.
