Death Notice (Cape Archives) says that he was born in St.Peter's, Hertfordshire ca 1776, the son of James and Ann WELLS

The banns of marriage between James WELLS and Ann CATKLIN both in this arish were only published three several times in this Church, viz. on Sunday August 24, and Sunday 31 and on Sunday Sep 7...

This marriage was solemnised between us James WELLS his mark and Ann WELLS late CATKLIN her mark in the presence of Mary [...] and Sarah [WARDANT].

James WELLS and Ann CATKLIN both in this Parish were married by banns on 21 September 1760 in Ayot St.Peter, Hertfordshire.

 

Thomas son of James WELLS and Ann his wife was baptised Aug 4th 1776 in Ayot St.Peter, Hertfordshire
