My Lord,
I beg leave to request to be informed what steps are necessary to be taken by a gentleman who wishes to go to the Cape of Good Hope – he will take with him some money – he is a professional man and has already been over the greater part of the U.S. of America – he wishes to be informed as to the manner in which he is to go and as to the quantity of land and in what part of the colony.
If your Lordship will favor me with the necessary information for my [obscured] I shall ever feel obliged and with all respect permit me to subscribe myself

October 4th 1819
My Lord,
Enclosed I have the honor of handing to you for the approval of Earl BATHURST the list of persons I intend taking to the Cape of Good Hope. I had the honor of an introductory letter from my esteemed friend Sir John Kynaston POWELL of Salop, Bart., and which I delivered to Mr. GORDON who kindly promised that it should be laid before you.
I have been and am still at a very considerable expence in supporting some of the individuals described and could I be favoured with an early answer I should ever esteem it as a particular mark of kindness.
In every respect I should willingly accede to the proposal of Government and in my selection I have only taken industrious men who will conduct themselves peaceably and legally as good and loyal subjects ought to do. I have the honor of subscribing myself with great respect
Your most obedient servant
Edward Webb WILSON
