Sir,
In consequence of the offer of his Majesty's Government to give encouragement to persons desirous of settling in the colony of the Cape I most respectfully offer myself to your notice as a candidate for the proposed grant. I am 35 years of age. I am a carpenter & wheelwright by trade, understands the farming business well, am married and have one child. Should I be so fortunate as to become an object of your choice the most satisfactory refference can be given as to my ability & general characture the money shall be paid whenever you may please to require it.
