William & Betty, son and daughter of William WAIT, carpenter, and Betty, baptised 31 July 1772 in St.Giles, Cripplegate (born 24 February)
William WAIT married Marianne Gertrude WAIT (heretofore COWAN, spinster), these parties having been married heretofore to each other, by Licence on 24 January 1820 at St.Paul's, Deptford
Both signed their names
Witnesses: Rev Wm COX, Harriet Dennis GARRETT
This marriage obviously took place as a result of allegations by Christopher THORNHILL. In a letter dated 21 January 1820 he enclosed a copy of the marriage and stated “In reply to Mr. THORNHILL's vile insinuation that Mrs. WAIT is not actually my wife, I will only trouble you with a positive declaration that she has been my married wife for the seven years last past since November 7th and that she has been received as such in some of the first classes of society. We have lived ever since our marriage most happily and there is not a more prudent or virtuous woman breathing” (CO48/53 page 468)
