Death Notice (Cape Archives) says he was born in Hartley Row, Hartford Bridge, Hants and that his mother's name was Ann. Hartfordbridge is just north of Hartley Wintney in Hampshire, and according to the Hartley Wintney Parish Council website the coaching road between them was known as Hartley Row.

Anne THARRATT aged 81 was buried on 3 August 1825 in St.Mary's, Hartley Wintney, Hampshire (Grave)

Will of Ann THARRATT (1826) can be downloaded here. The will mentions her sons John, William, Thomas, James and Tobias,  a daughter Ann, a daughter Mary GREGORY and grandsons William, Joseph and John CARY, sons of her late daughter Elizabeth CARY, later Elizabeth GOULDING.

Tobias thus seemingly had a late baptism, six years after the death of his father, when he would have been 11 or 12 years old.

Tobias THARRATT, bachelor, of the parish of Woolwich in the County of Kent married Ann VERRY, widow of this parish, by Licence on 17 June 1803 in St.Alphege, Greenwich.

Both signed their names.

Witnesses: William COOPER and Eleanor CORFIELD

 

Possible first marriage for Ann, although it would mean her age in The Settler Handbook is wrong.

James VERRY married Ann ALLINGHAM on 15 December 1791 in St.Leonard, Shoreditch.

Both signed their names.

Witnesses: George HAINES and Ann TAPLIN (X)

 

Richard James VERRY, son of James and Ann, trunkmaker, baptised 29 July 1792 in St.Giles Cripplegate (born 29 June)
