Death Notice (Cape Archives) says he was born in Birmingham ca March 1787 but Stanley G. Shuttleworth in his book"Tipperary to Harvest Vale ( The 1820 settler Gardners)" says he was born in Glean an Ghuail, Tipperary, Ireland. There is a small village known as New Birmingham within the townland of Glean an Ghuail.

 

Death Notice (Cape Archives) for eldest son Hezekiah says he was born in Tipperary, Ireland

 

Death Notice (Cape Archives) of son James says he was born in Birmingham, England and his parents were Edward GARDNER and Mary BROUGHAM
