Lancaster, Castle Hill. The Castle is adjacent to the Priory Church where Robert FOXCROFT and Ann CUMBERLAND were married. Both Robert and Ann were brought up in Lancaster and would have known these streets well. The cross at the foot of the hill is the Covell Cross, named after Thomas Covell, a former Keeper of the Castle. He, along with the Mayor of Lancaster and another Justice of the Peace, questioned the Pendle Witches during their imprisonment and trial in the Castle in 1612.
