St.John's Gate, Nelson Street

St.John's Gate, Nelson Street
8th October 2018

St John's Gate is one of the five original gated entrances into the old city that existed in the 12th-century. These acted both as part of the city's defences and as places where travellers could offer prayers before a journey. Above the archway is the tower of the Church of St John the Baptist. The street running alongside the church is Nelson Street, which is where William HOLDER lived.
