May it please your Lordship
Myself and other persons from this town having engaged to go out with a party of settlers from Liverpool to the Cape of Good Hope, Messrs. WHITELY & Co have called for our deposits, to raise which many of us will be under the necessity of selling our furniture, which will be attended with great inconvenience and ruin to most of us unless the ship sail in a few days. We therefore humbly request to know whether our deposit will be accepted if paid within a few days of the ship sailing, as also whether a vessel is already appointed for Liverpool, and at what time it may be expected to sail.
An answer to this by return of post directed to me near the Royal Oak, King Street in Blackburn will be gratefully received by, my Lord
Your Lordship's obedient and humble servant
John WILKINSON
