My Lord,
I hope your Lordship will excuse the liberty I take in addressing you in so brief a manner to state that I appeal to your Lordship in behalf of myself and nine others who will be happy to proceed to the Cape of Good Hope, feeling ourselves competent in every respect to the undertaking, being all of us young men and accustomed from our infancy to the pursuits of husbandry and I presume also to mention to your Lordship should this application be deemed worthy of attention the major part of us will be found equal to any and we flatter ourselves superior to many in point of the required knowledge and experience of those who may be considered fit persons to be forwarded to the country intended for emigration and that we feel confident of being approved of by any investigation or examination your Lordship may consider it prudent for us to undergo.
