Additonal Information

This is pre 1820 information mainly taken from actual images of UK parish registers and other primary sources which I have personally researched. Further information about the settlers and their families once they reached the Cape can be found at https://www.1820settlers.com/

Baptisms in Zion Chapel, Last Lane, Dover

Joseph, son of James REED and Sarah his wife of the parish of St.Mary's, born 11 July 1811 and baptised 11 December 1811 (RG4/921f20)

Sarah Sloman, daughter of James REED and Sarah his wife born 4 December 1813 in the parish of St.Mary's and baptised 8 May 1814 (RG4/921f23)

Alfred Swan, son of James REED and Sarah his wife born 4 December 1813 in the parish of St.Mary's and baptised 8 May 1814 (RG4/921f23)

Emily, daughter of James REED and Sarah his wife born 26 August 1815 in the parish of St.Mary's and baptised 29 February 1816 (RG4/921f25)

Marian, daughter of James REED and Sarah his wife born 11 May 1818 in the parish of St.Mary's and baptised 15 October 1818 (RG4/921f28)

The twin children were not listed on the Weymouth muster, so they presumably died before 1820. The Log of the Weymouth indicates that James and Sarah had another child on board.

They may have returned to the UK and Dover, as there is a marriage for Emily REED to Thomas ROUSE in Dover on 18 July 1836, and they named their first son Edwin Sloman ROUSE.
