Death Notice (Cape Archives) says he was born in Aberdeen in 1771

Military Discharge Papers (WO97/873/47)

Sgt Robert EMSLIE in Capt Thos VILLETT's Company in the 76th Hindustani Regiment.

Born in the parish of Aberdeen, enlisted age 18.

Discharged “in consequence of three gunshot wounds received at Jamalabad 6th October 1799, at Burthpore 21st January & 21st February 1805, as also rheumatism and intermittent fever contracted in Walcheren” ~ considered unfit for service.

“He is about forty three years of age, is 5 feet 8¼ inches in height, black hair, gray eyes, dark complexion, and by trade a weaver.”

Service:

75th Foot from 15 October 1789 to 24 July 1805

76th Foot from 26 July 1805 to 31 May 1813

Robert EMSLIE 76th Regt. Foot, Widower, and Sarah GREASLY of the same Regiment were married by Licence  on 28th March 1809 in St.Nicholas, Harwich, Essex
