DIED,- At Mayville, on the 6th July, 1898, May Newsam, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold ELLA, aged 2 years and 5 months.

Married,- At Wesley Church Queenstown, July 20th, by Rev. Philip TEARLE, Stanley James DOLD, fifth son of John DOLD, J.P. of Grahamstown, to Florence, fifth daughter of Ablot STILWELL, of Queenstown.
 
Died,- At Cala, Tembuland, on the 17th of July, 1898, Oliver Rasten BROWN, 12th Son of Nathaniel BROWN of Berlin, and brother of S.J. BROWN, of Lily Vale.  Aged 43 years 8 months and 18 days.  Leaving a Wife and eight Children to mourn their loss.

Died.- At Queenstown, on the 26th, 1898, Arthur BARRETT, late of the Educational Department, Bombay, aged 62.  The deceased leaves a widow and two sons, the elder of whom is stationed in Hong Kong.
 
Obituary.
The late Professor BARRETT, whose death is announced in this issue, was born in Wales, but spent more than thirty years in India, holding various honourable and responsible positions in the Educational Department of the Bombay Presidency.  He retired from the service about two years ago and has since lived in Queenstown, where he secured the affection and respect of all who knew him...

Died, On the 12th May, 1898, at the Rectory, Wellington, New South Wales - the residence of her Son the Rev. R. Barry BROWN - Catherine Rebacca DUNNETT, relict of the late Robert BROWN, Home Villa, Innerleithen, Scotlad.  Aged 72 years and 6 months.

J. CAMERON, Cove, Florence, second Daughter of Rev. Dr. STEWART, Lovedale, to David Blyth ANDERSON, eldest Son of John ANDERSON, Esq. of Knockderry, Cove.
 
Queenstown people will be sorry to learn of the death of Mr Evan OWEN, late organist, of St Michael's.  Mr. OWEN succumbed to an attack of fever, at Bulawayo, after a very short illness.

Sudden Death.- We regret to hear that Mr. William THOMPSON, a farmer living on the Klipplaat, above Shiloh, went out with a number of his boyx to extinguish a grass fire on his farm.  In the midst of their endeavours to put it out the boys saw him fall.  They went to lift him up but found he was quite dead....

The death is announced at Somerset East of Mrs. HART, senr. widow of the late Mr. Robert HART, of the fafamed farm Glen Avon.  Mrs. HART was 74 years of age.

Whereas Martin JORDAAN, a European (Dutch) lad, aged about 12 years, has been brought to this Office in a state of destitution:
Notice is hereby given that unless he is claimed within Six Weeks from this date by some relative of friend, fit, able, and willing to support him, he will be indentured according to law.
 
It is hereby notified for general information that the destitute children mentioned have been indentured as follows:-
1.  Georgina HATTINGH to Mr. E.R. GIBBON, of Queenstown, until she attains her sixteenth year.
2.  Kitty HATTINGH to Mr. R. CREBO, of Queenstown, until she attains her sixteenth year.
3.  Esther HATTINGH, to Mr. C.P. DE WET, of Queenstown, until she attains her sixteenth year.
4.  Clarence HATTINGH, to Mr. J.J. CLOETE, of Lesseyton Cottage, until he attains his eighteenth year.

Died,- At her residence in Queenstown on Monday, 3rd inst., Mary Ann, widow of the late Henry W. DALE, aged 79, leaving a large circle of relatives to mourn the loss of a loving mother.
The late Mrs. DALE was one of the oldest residents of the town.  She is one of few who arrived with the "Scotch party" of British Settlers in 1820, being one year old at the time of landing.  Being born May 23rd, 1819, she was but a day older than Her Majesty the Queen.  For years past Mrs. DALE, with her daughters have lead a very quiet and retired life, hardly venturing beyond the precincts of the house.  She was of a quiet disposition and was greatly loved by her family, of whom she leaves three daughters and two sons.

Fashionable wedding.  ROSS-LAXTON.
A very pretty wedding was solemnized at St. Michael's Church on Tuesday afternoon last, the contracting parties being Mr. Archar R ROSS, Rusape, Makoni's District, Rhodesia, and Miss Louisa J. LAXTON, Bolotwa.  The officiating clergymen were the Revs. F.W. WINGATE and C.W. WALLACE, and there was a large and fashionalbe gathering, the spacious edifice edifice being filled...

We regret having to record the death on Thursday afternoon last from inflammation of the lungs of Mr. C.B. CHADWELL the popular Host of the Masonic Hotel.  Mr. CHADWELL's last illness was of short duration, and his sudden death has come as a shock to his many friends.  Mr. CHADWELL was a Freemason and at his demise held the high office of Junior Warden of the Star in the East Lodge.  He was also Scribe N. of the Royal Arch Chapter.  The body of the deceased was conveyed to the Temple at 2 p.m. and the Brethren assembled at 3.15 when a full Masonic service was held, at the completion of which the cortege proceded to the cemetery....

Death.-  We regret to announce the death of Dr. MURRAY's baby, aged 11 months, on Monday, October 17th

We regret to have to record the death yesterday afternoon of Mrs. T. STUBBS, wife of the Messenger of the R.M. Court.  The deceased lady had contracted measles, which unfortunately took an inward turn, with the above sad result.

We deeply regret to hear that Mr. T. DAVISON lost his little daughter yesterday.

We Exceedingly regret having to record another death.  Mrs.  JACKSON wife of Mr. S. JACKSON, of Essex, passed away yesterday.  The deceased lady was over 70 years of age, had resided in this district a number of years, and leaves a large circle of sorrowing friends.  The funeral took place at Essex to-day.

Obituary
We have with feelings of regret to record that death is still busy in our midst.  On Sunday last, after a short illness, the death of Miss M. HUNTER took place, the terrible avenger, cutting down a young life, in spite of all that medical aid and care could do.  The funeral took plce last Monday afternoon, and was attended by a large number of sorrowing friends, the service being conducted by the Rev. WALLACE.

On Saturday afternoon last, the wedding took place at the Church of St. Michael and All Angels, of Percy Milford WRIGHT, A.R.M., of Glen Grey to Ada Rose Scalen ROBERTS, daughter of the Chief Inspector of Natives.  The Rev. William STEAD, of Bolotwa, officiated.  Mr. S.B. WRIGHT acted as best mand, and Misses May ROBERTS, Kate WRIGHT and Maud WRIGHT as bridesmaids...

Died,- At Tylden, on the 12th December, 1898, after many months intense suffering, William MILLER, fourth son of the late Thomas MILLER, 1820 Settlers, aged 74 years and 6 months.
Died,- At Indwe, on the 8th Dec., 1898, Ellen Downham, infant daughter of R. and E. PEVERETT, aged 7 months.

Died,- At Berlin, near King Williamstown, on 7th December, 1898, in his 90th year, Nathaniel BROWN, father of S.J. BROWN, of Lily Vale, and eldest brother of Hon. Thomas BROWN, of Guildford, Queenstown district, leaving 9 children and about 100 grand and great grandchildren to mourn their loss.
Died,- On his farm Elizabeth, in the district of Bedford, Cape Colony, on the 16th Dec., 1898, Mr. George KING, after a lingering illness.
 
Obituary
We regret having to record the death at Cathcart on Saturday afternoon of Mr. John TWEEDIE.  The funeral took place yesterday, the ceremony being conducted with Masonic Honours.  Mr. TWEEDIE had been seriously ill for some time past, and the worst fears were entertained as to his recovery...
