Death Notice (Cape Archives) of his son John Henry says he was the son of John Henry and Eleanor KING and was born at sea ca 1817

The family was originally listed under a Party headed by Joseph PURNELL of Frome, where the son John is probably incorrectly listed as Jane. (scroll below Stephen BOURNE to second return)

John KING and Eleanor CLARK were married by banns on 25 July 1815 in St.John's, Frome, Somerset

Both made their mark

Witnesses: John BURGESS and H. CRUSE

Death Notice (Cape Archives) for his daughter Sarah says she was born in Frome, but the age suggests a birth in 1822. The Grahamstown Journal for 13 September 1886 says "The death took place on Friday last of the widow of the late Mr. Wm. HYDE, of Hounslow. The deceased lady was born the year after the arrival of the British Settlers..." However, John and Sarah were listed on the muster roll of the Weymouth.
