DEATH of Mrs. ROWLES.- Mrs. ROWLES the widow of the late senior partner in the Kaffrarian Watchman died at King William's Town on the afternoon of 5th inst.

DEATH OF MASTER HAROLD R. RITCHIE.- It is with deep regret that we record the death of the eldest son of the Rev. J.P. RITCHIE which took place on Wednesday night. The child, who was six years of age, had been ailing for about three weeks. We tender the sympathy of the district to Mr. and Mrs. RITCHIE in their bereavement

ANOTHER OLD SETTLER.- The Journal understands that another of the old settlers of 1820, and probably the last, is Mr. Geo PEACH, who is now in the chronic ward in the Port Elizabeth hospital.

BIRTH,- At Queenstown, on the 4th May, the Wife of Mr. Robt. H. IMPEY, of a Son.

DIED,- At Whittlesea, on the 6th May, 1886, Clarice Mary, youngest child of J.W. and M.L. WOSTENHOLM, aged 15 months and 15 days.

EXECUTION.- Last Friday N'TSOMBO, a Gcaleka, was hanged at King William's Town for the murder of PAWTE, near Idutywa. ELENE, a Gcaleka chief, who was to have been hanged on the same charge, was found dead in the cell, from strangulation, pieces of blanket being found around his neck. N'TYZAKE and PONEY for the same charge were to have been hanged last Saturday. We presume the execution has taken place, not having heard to the contrary.

DIED,- At Queenstown, on Friday 28th May, 1886, Frances, beloved wife of William HEX, formerly of Surrey, England, aged 58 years, 6 months and 23 days.
Note of Thanks.- Mr. HEX and family, desire to tender their heartfelt thanks to all those kind friends who assisted in the time of their sad affliction and bereavement, more especially to Mr., Mrs., and Miss MUSKETT.

OBITUARY.
Death has been busy in our midst during the last week, and has taken the old, the middle-aged and the young. Mr. P.A. DU PLESSIS, the father of our Junior Member, Mr. M. J. DU PLESSIS, M.L.A., passed quietly away, at the ripe old age of 86 years and 6 months, on his farm Rooi Randt near Lesseyton. HE came into these parts in the year 1842, some years before Queenstown district was formed. He came of good old stock and was highly esteemed and respected.

The funeral, which was largely attended, took place on the farm on 17th ult. On 28th ult., Mrs. HEX, the wife of Mr. Wm. HEX, who resided for years on the Katberg, but who latterly has carried on business in Queenstown, died somewhat suddenly, although she had been in indifferent health for some time. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, the melan-ceremony being performed by the Rev. J.P. RITCHIE, a large assemblage being present. At the grave the choir sung the hymn "Art thou weary?"

We also regretfully announce the death of Mr. E. MURPHY, eldest son of Mr. James MURPHY, of the Bongolo. The young gentleman had gone home to spend the Queen's Birthday, and while riding was thrown from his horse, alighting with great force on his head. For three or four days no serious
symptoms presented themselves. On Wednesday last he consulted Dr. BERRY, but then there was nothing to cause special alarm. On Thursday afternoon after taking a walk he complained bitterly of pain in the head. He grew worse, and after several hours of intense suffering he passed away at 1.30 a.m. on Friday morning. The young gentleman was a boy of great promise and high in the estimation of all who knew him. He was the head boy of the Grammar School, and last Christmas secured the Dux Gold Medal...

On Wednesday last Mr. John FULLER of Thomas River, passed away somewhat unexpectedly, although he had been ailing for some time. Being a Freemason, and one of the oldest members of the Lodge Star in the East, the Brethren of the craft paid him the last honors in their power. The body was brought from Thomas River to Queenstown Station, where it was met by a few of
the Brethren and conveyed to the Star in the East Lodge, ...

DEATH OF Mrs W.A. DIXON.
We regret to record the death of Mrs. W.A. DIXON, (nee Miss Sara BARKER) which sad event took place very early on Friday morning. Mr. DIXON was at Vryburg, Bechuanaland, and only a messaged could be telegraphed to him. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon from Mrs. BARKER's house, in Ebden Street. Mr. DIXON being a Freemason, many of the brethren assembled to do the last honors in their power to the remains of their absent brother's wife. The procession was met at the door of St. Michael's by the Rev. J. LLEWELYN and after the service in the Church the coffin was borne to the cemetery where the solemn ritual was concluded. The late Mrs. DIXON will be long remembered for her quiet acts of kindness which many and to most people, except the recipients, unknown. We tender the sympathies of the district to Mr. DIXON and Mrs. BARKER and family in their sad bereavement.

DEATH of Mrs. J.A. MORGAN.
Scarcely had the ground covered the remains of Mrs. DIXON when the hand of death was again busy in our midst, for at midday on Sunday Mrs. MORGAN passed away after but a short illness. The deceased lady was connected with the AYLIFF family in Grahamstown, and a large circle of friends will be plunged into grief and mourning by her death. To Mr. MORGAN and his family the sympathy of the town will be most heartily given in their sad affiction. The funeral will take place this afternoon.
