Centenarian lives alone
To live in your own house when you are a centenarian is quite an achievement. But tomorrow when José QUIN of Port Elizabeth enters her 100th year, she will be 'at home' not in her Havelock Street house but in the Mill Park house of her niece, Mrs. Bertha BATEMAN.
Mrs. BATEMAN, wife of Dr. A. E. BATEMAN hopes all her aunt's friends will find the opportunity to pop in at some stage during the day.
It was Mrs. QUIN and her late husband, Mr. Aidan QUIN, who became Mrs. BATEMAN's parents when she was orphaned as a small girl. Her father was Mrs. QUIN's brother.
Mrs. QUINN, who has been a member of the Port Elizabeth Women's Club for more than 40 years, is a foundation member of the club's sewing party started during the Second World War.
For many years she was president of the Theosophical Society and meetings are still held in her house once a month.
Mrs. QUIN, who was widowed in 1949, trained as a teacher and was for 22 years on the staff of Walmer Primary School.
