Since my great sorrow fell,
Yet in my heart, I mourn the loss
Of him I loved so well.
I often sit and think of you, dear Bert,
And think of how you died,
My loss can never be told,
I miss you more, as days grow old.
Oh! those who have a son,
Do love him while you may,
For home is quite another place
When a son is taken away.

Though there’s nothing left to answer
But your dear face on the wall.
